Recently, both VSCode and Copilot Coding agent were updated to support AGENTS.md file for instructions in addition to existing instruction files. However, I can't seem to find any mention of AGENTS.md file support in Copilot code review docs. Is the support for the new file planned or already rolled for Copilot code review functionality?

At the moment, AGENTS.md support is available in VS Code and for Copilot Chat/Coding Agents, but it has not yet been extended to Copilot Code Review. That’s why you’re not seeing any mention of it in the current documentation.

What this means:
Copilot Code Review is still using the existing instruction sources (like copilot-instructions.md).
Support for AGENTS.md in code review hasn’t been officially announced or rolled out yet.

What you can do:
Keep an eye on the GitHub Copilot documentation
and release notes for updates.
If your workflow relies heavily on AGENTS.md, you’ll still need to maintain both files (one for coding agents, one for reviews) until Code Review adds support.
You can also share feedback or feature requests directly with GitHub through the Feedback form

Right now, AGENTS.md is not supported for Copilot Code Review, but given the direction of recent updates, it’s likely planned for future support.

Is there any update since september ? When I read the current direct documentation Using GitHub Copilot code review - Customizing Copilot's reviews with custom instructions it still only mention *.instructions.md files but it also point at Adding repository custom instructions for GitHub Copilot which mention AGENTS.md file.

For the part:

won't the same content be read twice by agents launched through IDEs etc ? (as it is in 2 supported files)
Or should *.instructions.md point at the AGENTS.md file (telling the agent to go read it)

Refer to [AGENTS.md](../AGENTS.md) for all repo instructions.
