🛠️ How to Generate OpenAPI Specification from Postman

You can export an OpenAPI 3.0 or 2.0 specification directly from the Postman collection.

1. View the Collection

  1. Open the Google Maps Platform Postman Collections.
  2. Locate the collection you wish to export (e.g., Google Maps Platform Core APIs, Google Maps Route Optimization APIs, etc.).

2. Fork the Collection

If you want to modify or save the collection to your own workspace:

  1. Click the Fork icon (three dots next to the collection).
  2. Provide a label and choose your workspace.
  • Be sure to "watch" the collection for any updates as they are published

3. Generate the Specification

  1. In the Postman sidebar, expand Collections.
  2. Click the "View more actions" icon (three dots) next to the collection.
  3. Select More > Generate specification.
  4. Provide a name for your specification.
  5. Choose your preferred file format: YAML or JSON.
  6. Click Generate Specification.

You can then view and download the generated specification!

🤝 How to Contribute

We welcome contributions to the Postman collections! Since we use Postman's built-in version control, you can propose changes similarly to Git.

1. Fork the Collection

  1. Open the collection you want to contribute to in the public workspace.
  2. Click the Fork icon to create a copy in your own workspace.

2. Make Your Changes

  1. Update the requests, parameters, or documentation within your forked collection.

3. Create a Pull Request (Contribute)

  1. Once your changes are ready, click on your forked collection.
  2. Find the Contribute or "Create Pull Request" option.
  3. Review your changes, add a title and description, and submit the request.
