GitHub Copilot Pro Still Stuck on Free Despite Student Approval #160297
-
Hi everyone,Hello GitHub Support Team, I am a verified GitHub Student Developer Pack user (approved on May 23, 2025), and according to the documentation, I should be eligible for Copilot Pro at no cost. However, my Copilot dashboard still shows "You are using Copilot for free" with the associated usage limits. When I attempt to upgrade by clicking "Upgrade to Pro", I receive the following error:
This message is confusing, as I am not receiving any of the Pro benefits, yet the system seems to think I already have them activated. I have already:
I have also carefully read the Copilot for Education FAQ , but my issue still remains unresolved. I’ve attached three screenshots showing:
Could you please help:

Just a update , my issue has finally been resolved after a few days of back-and-forth with GitHub Support. I submitted a support ticket, worked with a few different support agents, and eventually Copilot Pro was successfully activated. It’s now working fine for me. |

Wait a bit longer (up to a few days): While 72 hours is the general guideline, some users report it can take a bit longer, even up to a week or two, especially during busy periods like semester starts. Double-check your email (including spam): Ensure you haven't missed a separate activation email for Copilot Pro or other benefits. Log in if prompted. Verify status on GitHub Education: Submit a GitHub Support Ticket: If the above steps don't resolve it after a few more days, this is the most direct way to get help. Go to https://support.github.com/contact/education or https://support.github.com/contact/support. When creating the ticket, select "I am a verified student having trouble redeeming my Global Campus offers" (if applicable) or a general "Other" category. Include all details: Exact approval date and time (e.g., June 6 at 10 AM IST). The exact message you're seeing: "Your Student Developer Pack will be ready soon! We will notify you via email when your Experiences and offers become available to you." The fact that Copilot Pro is not activated (still showing free). Troubleshooting steps you've already taken (logging out, clearing cache, incognito). I hope this helps. |
